The Once and Future Jail

What I have to look forward to is jail.

The Arlington County Sheriff's Office is one of the most technically advanced Direct Supervision facilities in the country. It was the first urban high-rise jail to be run under direct supervision within the state of Virginia and is visited regularly by Corrections Officials from around the world. The non-jail like appearance of the Detention Facility camouflages an extensive high tech security system. In the design and construction of the facility, key factors were the safety and security of the staff, public, and inmates.

The Arlington County Detention Facility is run on the basic principals of Direct Supervision. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the empowerment of our staff members. Our highly trained Staff effectively manage an average daily inmate population of approximately 625 inmates. Our facility also places a great deal of emphasis on teaching inmates self-sufficiency and real life skills in order to reduce the rate of recidivism. Our facility employs a total of approximately 260 staff members, 200 being Correctional Staff. Correctional Staff are Certified as Virginia State Law Enforcement Officers.
